BISHOP THOMAS WEEKS - The Devil Made Me Beat My Wife(Juanita Bynum)

By Karu F. Daniels, Newswire

The estranged husband of battered televangelist Juanita Bynum is back in stride again.

According to published reports, Bishop Thomas W. Weeks, III didn't miss a beat during Sunday service -- two days after turning himself into Atlanta authorities for assaulting his wife -- and was met by cheers and applause from parishioners at the Global Destiny Ministries.

Good God Almighty.

Weeks said the devil was behind his current situation, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, and also expressed appreciation for the prayers and support he and his wife have received.

As previously reported by The BV Newswire, police said Weeks assaulted the Pentecostal Prophetess during an argument on Aug. 21 outside of an Atlanta hotel.

After a media frenzy ensued about the near fatal attack, Weeks surrendered to Atlanta police Friday morning. Bond was set at $30,000 on a charge of aggravated assault and $10,000 on a charge of terroristic threats, and a magistrate ordered Weeks to have no contact with Bynum or her sister, Tina Culpepper.

But that didn't stop him from tending to his business affairs at the church he founded in Atlanta.

"We've got certain things going on right now, but I refuse to stop coming to the house God built," he reportedly said during his brief appearance before introducing a guest minister and leaving the room.

Members of his congregation didn't mind talking to the newspaper about their feelings about the controversial scandal.

"There are three sides to every story," said frequent visitor Shannon Mayers. "Nobody has the right to judge anybody. God is in the midst of that and will work it out."

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Maurice Adams said he was disappointed to hear the news but still considers Weeks his bishop. "We all make mistakes. He deserves another opportunity," Adams said. "I'm hurt, but I do respect him for being man enough to show his face today."

Weeks is due in Fulton County Superior Court on Sept. 7.

Bishop Thomas Weeks has turned himself in to the police, but accusations of Weeks being gay or on the "down low" while married to Juanita Bynum are still a hot item of discussion.

I have so many feelings on this topic, I want to talk about what happened between Bishop Weeks and Juanita Bynum so much. I found it fascinating that ABC news nor Entertainment Tonight covered this yesterday. (This couple is almost like a Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker in terms of notoriety -- at least in the black community.)

But anyway, my purpose here is to substantiate the accusations of Bishop Weeks being on the down low, or secretly gay.

Is it true or is Media Takeout wrong?
ABOUT ACCUSATIONS THAT BISHOP THOMAS WEEKS IS ON THE DOWN LOW.

Original Thursday, August 23, 2007 article about the Bishop Weeks and Juanita Bynum:
The devil went down to Georgia the other night.

I awoke this morning shocked by the news that Bishop Thomas Weeks attacked his estranged wife, prophet Juanita Bynum.

The net is going crazy as photos of Juanita Bynum's bruises are being posted.

So sad.

Media Takeout is going as far as to insinuate that Bishop Thomas Weeks was being confronted about being a gay-homosexual-on-the-down-low pastor and that's why his rage surfaced.

I'm going to keep checking Google News to see when Bishop Thomas Weeks is captured and arrested.

Video news reports and articles -- Juanita Bynum makes it clear that she was "attacked" by Bishop Thomas Weeks -- and there was no "fight."

Bynum has pressed charges and a warrant has been issued for Weeks' arrest for assault and terroristic threats.

Hey what you think isn't important because God has the last chapter in this book of juanita and her husband. Just like he has the last chapter in all of our lives, So don't be so quick to point fingers, and give your opinions, because someday you to will be judged with the same judement that you give out. What we as the body of Christ, should be praying is Lord Jesus let your will be done in this situation! In Jesus name Amen.Alabama

And is the Lord above all of our problems. ALABAMA IT IS PRAYING TIME.

While it is indeed an unfortuanate situation, and just because they are "of the cloth" doesn't mean we can't talk about it. They set themselves up to a higher standard just by virtue of who they are, what they do and how they counsel others on their lives. Yes, credibility is at stake. That's the nature of the "popularity beast" All things have a two-sided coin. They are not gods. I have as much access to God as they do. They are good leaders that have encountered and unpleasant circumstance. Let's not deify people, we need only to deify God.

I saw this coming way before it happened, starting with their engagement the way it happened. I've also viewed her making comments about him, that was sort of wrong...mind you that gives no excuse for the incident. I believe he was provoked, she does have a way with words... we should be really holding him up in prayer, too. She's getting all the public for of expressions of "sorry it happened," He's getting the book throwed at him...she's not commenting.."she's resting".mark my word....she's going back to him, he will face his charges with a learned lesson and they will live happily ever after ...They are both people of God no matter what we say.I know that I've done wrong before and God forgave me...he'll forgive them both, too...remember they mixed salt in the ceremony.....

Well, Bishop T. D. Jakes has offered prayers for his spiritual daughter, Juanita Bynum.

I remember when I first bought Bishop Weeks' book, Teach Me How to Love You, a black woman at my church's women's conference said: "Talk to me after you've been married 25 years..."

How true this all was.

And still is.

I understand that I rarely speak of the men of God, heeding that line that says, "Touch not mine anointed."

But then I also heed the lines that say "The truth will set you free."

I pray for the truth to emerge and for healing to come about in one way or another.

I've watched Juanita Bynum a lot on TV, and the CD that came with that book was amazing.

And if Bishop Weeks was gay or living life on the "down low," I too, pray for Juanita's health and Bishop Weeks to be treated fairly.

I don't like the use of the "f-word" to describe him; I guess it's as hateful as the "n word."

But thank you all for these great comments.

And yes, we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory.

I don't want the abuse of a woman to be minimized. And yet I still want fairness to emerge and justice for Bishop Weeks and Juanita Bynum.

As my Gran Ruby always said, "God's will will be done."

You people burn me up with your half working GAY DETECTORS! You only see (into) what you want to see (into) -- the rest you totally ignore/overlook. If you're going to DISCERN -- then take a GOOD look at both sides! And if you're going to throw the GAY CARD in -- which some church people are sooo quick to use when they have nothing else to build on -- then DONT JUST USE YOUR GAY DETECTOR ON HIM -- USE IT ON HER TOO!!! STOP SPECULATING -- BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ALL THE FACTS -- AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

AND EVEN IF HE/AND/OR SHE 'ARE' ON THE DOWN-LOW AS YOU PUT IT --- THEY ARE STILL A MAN & WOMAN OF GOD -- WITH A FLAW/POSSIBLY MARRED IN THE HAND OF THE POTTER - JUST LIKE ALL THE REST OF US (EXCEPT FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE PERFECT - AND HAVE NO FLAW!!!)

I like the newest revision to the blog. Nice look.

It's a shame about this situation. I'm glad he finally turned himself in. I hope it doesn't cause any dissension or schism in their congregation.

Lastly, have you read about the Blogging While Brown conference that's being planned? Read my post on it. You could contribute some great ideas now that you've been to Blog-her.

Yeah, when Pastor Donnie McClurkin came out about being raped as an 8-year-old boy and his struggles with homosexuality, some members of the Church rejected him.

So I can understand why all of us imperfect folks who've struggled with living lives of integrity -- whether it be rappers pretending to be macho while secretly gay, or bloggers like me who could stand to be more honest about my testimony -- sometimes fear the faces of men more than God.

I think the accusations against high-profiled people like Bishop Weeks and the plight of Juanita Bynum are so shocking because we absorbed her preaching and followed some of her advice on being good wives.

I still believe the Lord is using them mightily thru all this -- especially because of this.

And Martin - thanks for the compliment on the blog. I like it better too. I'll keep playing around with it.

Glad to see you back.

I'll stop on over and see what I can find out about the Blogging While Brown conference.

Much love,
Paula
